Wisconsin Man Accused of Escaping from Police, Stealing Squad Car, Leading Chase A Wisconsin man was arrested after he allegedly escaped a sheriff squad vehicle, stole a second vehicle and led police on an 18-mile chase on February 12. The Adams County Sheriff’s Office released dashcam video showing the incident on February 16. Levi Hedding, 27, of Coloma, Wisconsin, had been stopped by deputies from the sheriff’s offices from Adams and Marquette counties on a warrant for charges he had been trafficking heroin, the sheriff’s office said at the time of the arrest. “Hedding initially lied to deputies about his name and attempted to flee on foot before being taken into custody,” officials said. While officers processed evidence, Hedding escaped through the rear window of an Adams County squad vehicle. He then took a Marquette County squad vehicle and fled the scene, according to officials. He then led officers on an 18-mile chase, which involved law enforcement from the area, the sheriff’s office said. Hedding crashed the squad car into a ditch in Adams County before attempting to flee on foot, the sheriff’s office said. He was then apprehended by a Marquette County K-9 and deputies from both agencies. Hedding was charged with possession of heroin with intent to deliver, escape, operating vehicle without owner’s consent, operating with a restricted controlled substance, reckless driving, obstructing/resisting an officer, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating without a valid driver’s license, felony fleeing and felony bail jumping. The dashcam video shows Hedding’s initial apprehension, his escape from the squad vehicle and the ensuing chase. Credit: Adams County Sheriff via Storyful
